The Special Science Group, also called SSG (jap. エスエスジー, Esu Esu Jī), is a research unit of the Navy under the leadership of the world-famous scientist Vegapunk. Their task is to replace the abolished system of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and thus prevent the structure of the Three Powers from developing to the Navy’s disadvantage.
Thus, the combat power of the SSG must be equal to that of the Seven Samurai, although it is as yet completely unclear what that power is. In any case, Admiral Fujitora puts all his trust in the SSG project.
