Arriving on the Sabaody Archipelago, the Straw Hats, with the help of Hatchan, Camie, and Pappag, search for a ship’s hull so they can reach the second half of the Grand Line. But right off the bat, they have to promise Hatchan never to attack a World Aristocrat, as they can summon one of the three admirals to defend them. Hatchan leads Luffy’s crew to the bar owner Shakuyaku, where the ship’s mantler Rayleigh is often supposed to be, but he is currently nowhere to be found. Shakuyaku informs the Straw Hats that there are currently nine other pirates on the archipelago besides Luffy and Zoro, each with a bounty of over 100 million berries, collectively they are called the 11 Supernovae.
After this short break, the Straw Hats go in search of Rayleigh. But when they go to the amusement park at Luffy’s request, the mermaid Camie is kidnapped. Immediately, everyone begins searching for her and the Rosy-Life Riders also come to the Straw Hats’ aid. Eventually, everyone learns that the mermaid is going to be sold at the Human Auctioning House. In addition to the Straw Hats, Trafalgar Law and the Eustass Kid are also at the auction, as well as some World Nobles. When one of these catches sight of the mermaid, he immediately wants to buy her, to the horror of the Straw Hats. However, Luffy simply rushes towards Camie, who is sitting in a jar of water on the bleachers, to free her. Hatchan tries to stop him, but is revealed to be a fish-man in the process and is gunned down by the world aristocrat Saint Charlos. When Luffy sees this, he knocks Saint Charlos to the ground. This attack on a World Aristocrat now sends a Navy admiral to the archipelago to punish those responsible.
The Straw Hat Pirates therefore flees to Shakuyaku’s bar after a fight from the auction house with Rayleigh, who was also to be sold. While there, it turns out, among other things, that Rayleigh was once the vice of the Roger Gang. Rayleigh gives them part of his Vivre Card there and promises to take care of their ship. Meanwhile, however, the Straw Hats must hide out on the archipelago. However, during their escape, they encounter a Pacifista who looks exactly like Bartholomew Kuma. After defeating him with difficulty, they continue their escape, but encounter another Pacifista, Admiral Kizaru, who has eaten of the Light Fruit, and one of his subordinates, Sentomaru. However, Rayleigh also comes to their aid. When the situation seems hopeless, the real Bartholomew Kuma also appears and with his devilish powers makes one Straw Hat after another disappear, until at last he beams Luffy away after saying goodbye to him. With that, the Straw Hat Pirates has suffered a complete defeat.
Meanwhile, however, another piece of news has spread across the archipelago: Ace, the commander of the Whitebeard Gang’s 2nd Division and Luffy’s brother, is soon to be executed in Marine Ford. A battle is brewing between the Navy and Whitebeard’s gang.
