Appearance

Sketches as a child

50 years ago, when he was a child, he wore a red top with black stripes and a light-colored vest. He wore grey trousers with it.

His blond hair color has remained to the older version, as have his gray pants, but now held in place by a belt. A black shirt now adorns his torso, and so do sunglasses on his face. As Rapa Nui holds a higher rank in the navy, he wears over his shoulders the naval coat he is entitled to. He has black ribbons wrapped around his arms, and he also wears dark-colored boots.

Personality

Despite the fact that his father was a marine, he always wanted to be a pirate as a child for adventure. He is probably a born leader, as both in his childhood and in the navy, his friends listened to him. A trait of his as a child was also to be suspicious of adults.

Thus, he did not believe the Straw Hats that they were not hostile to them, and also thought they had forced Pukau to make him feel that way. Rapa Nui also assumed that they didn’t want out of the mist, but were only after the treasures. Even when his fellow soldiers were already eating with the straw hats, he stood apart, not trusting them.

As they tried to escape the fog, Rapa Nui sacrificed himself for the others to fire the saving cannons that carried the The Going Merry out of the fog.

Skills and strength

Rapa Nui flips a coin.

Even as a child, he had the ability to snap hard, so he finished off a sea king in the fog with this technique. Furthermore, he also seems to know how to fight with a sword, as he attacked the Straw Hat Pirates with one.

Past

Rapa Nui’s father, the naval officer…

When Rapa Nui was young, his father went out to sea with his naval unit. It was only in the Rainbow Mist that he learned his father had died, finding his unit’s ship in the mist.

Wetton’s Charge

The kids are facing Wetton.

When they were children, Henzo, Rapa Nui, Pukau, Isoka, Rongo and Akibi often met at a big rock in the sea, went swimming and talked together around the campfire in the evening. One afternoon, when they met together once again, they saw from afar how the town was on fire.

Worried for their families, they ran to it and met the captain of the attacking pirate gang, Wetton, of all people in the town, who was having fun chasing the children. Rapa Nui led them to the harbor, where his plan was to grab a ship and escape. But the pirates had destroyed all the ships, so the children climbed aboard Wetton’s pirate ship.

The latter jumped in after them, and tried to grab the children. He hurled his axe and managed to destroy the steering wheel. Unfortunately, the ship was heading straight for the Rainbow Nebula, which Ian, who was left alone on the ship, was not at all pleased about.

Wetton still tried to fight the children, though. Henzo unexpectedly threw himself at him and they both fell off the ship before the ship reached the Rainbow Nebula. Rapa Nui, his friends, and Ian thus sailed into the mist, where they did not age, and Henzo and Wetton swam back to the city.

Under Ian’s command

Ian eats and the kids go hungry.

In the fog, Ian made it clear that they would now have to listen to him if they wanted to survive, as the sea was dangerous and he was an experienced sailor. The children now fetched food and treasure from the other ships at his command, most of which he kept for himself.

He treated them badly and even threw Rongo to a sea king so he could fight him, but he was saved by Rapa Nui. Once again, as Ian was feasting, a sea king showed up, attracted by the food. Everyone was terrified, and Ian ordered the ship to be defended. Rapa Nui was outraged that the ship was more important to him than her life. Together they left the ship on a dinghy, and the Sea King swam after the ship.

Meet the Straw Hat Pirates and Henzo

Rapa Nui distrusts Henzo.

When a group of pirates appeared in the Rainbow Mist, the Pumpkin Pirates executed the plan for such a case. Ghosts made of sheets were piloted from the mast and arrows were shot from the shipwrecks. Luffy, however, uncovered the hoax and exposed the children. Finally, Rapa Nui showed up and threatened to set off a bomb if they didn’t let them go.

Henzo recognized his childhood friends, who hadn’t aged a day, and also realized that the bomb was fake, as he had designed it. The pumpkin pirates were skeptical, whereupon Rapa Nui set off a smoke bomb and they disappeared. Later, back at the base, Rapa Nui reported to Isoka via Den-den Mushi that the pirate ship from earlier was heading towards them. He also spotted Pukau and thought the Straw Hats had captured him. Bravely, he jumped onto the The Going Merry with his sword drawn.

Zoro quickly disarmed him and Rapa Nui refused to see that the Straw Hats meant him no harm. Even as his fellow pirates ate, he still stood apart. Henzo came to him and apologized for his failure, for he had not been able to save them.

Finally, Henzo’s Den-den Mushi rang and Flip was on the line. When Wetton’s name came up, Rapa Nui was furious and called Henzo a traitor for working with the pirate who burned their city to the ground. Usopp settled the dispute between Henzo and Rapa Nui, and just as they were about to make up, Luffy’s too much momentum accidentally took Rapa Nui to the edge of the Rainbow Nebula, where they were stuck for the time being.

Escape from the fog

After Wetton activated the rainbow tower, which was a tube leading into the mist, Luffy and Rapa Nui were thrown out of the mysterious sphere due to the vibration.

Through the tower, Luffy and Rapa Nui entered the mist again. Wetton, seeing that he stood no chance against Luffy, used a lever to explode the tower. The explosion made the fog unstable and they had to get out of it quickly. The air blast from the cannons fired from the wrecked navy ship allowed the Going Merry to get out.

Joining the Navy

Rapa Nui is writing his book.

Rapa Nui, Isoka, Akibi, Pukau and Rongo all woke up on a beach and were picked up by a navy ship. They joined the navy so they could one day take on Wetton. It was also during this time that Rapa Nui wrote the book about the Rainbow Nebula, which Robin had with him.

Present

Pursuit of the Straw Hats

When his fleet went after the Straw Hats, he was downstairs in the cabin and wasn’t particularly interested in what was going on. However, a marine told him that the ones they were after were the Straw Hats with the infamous Captain Monkey D. Luffy. He then stormed upstairs to Isoka and had her give him the binoculars. With the finger bomb he now tried to sink the pirate ship, but he had to sneeze and he hit a ship from his fleet. Because of this, the Straw Hats escaped and Rapa Nui ordered them to set course for Ruluka.

Arrest of the criminals

Henzo and Rapa Nui, who are the same age, meet.

Shortly after the The Going Merry emerged from the mist, Rapa Nui’s unit reappeared. The latter defeated Wetton and had his henchmen arrested. They revealed themselves, which pleased Henzo greatly. They also deliberately let the Straw Hat Pirates escape, claiming they had no more room on the ship.
